First, I want to say Thank You for being a White Bay Villa guest and/or a JVD visitor in the past. The entire White Bay Villa team looks forward to welcoming you to our property. These past months have been a really crazy time! My name is John Klein and I am the owner, builder and developer of White Bay Villas. I have been in the Virgin Islands for well over 40 years and I am writing this letter to you personally to convey what is happening at White Bay Villas and Jost Van Dyke following hurricanes Irma and Maria in September last year. I’m optimistic and excited about our recovery.

What Happened

Jost Van Dyke and the BVI’s were hit by the most powerful category 5 hurricane ever recorded with sustained winds of 190 mph and gusts exceeding 220 mph. Compounding this monster of a storm were tornadoes embedded within the hurricane.  Then, adding insult to injury, Hurricane Maria, also a Category 5, arrived less than two weeks later bringing incredible amounts of rain and flooding.  I have experienced many hurricanes in my lifetime, but these storms and aftermath were indescribable. We built the strongest buildings on Jost Van Dyke, yet nothing was designed to anticipate the power of these back to back storms. Thankfully, we had no injuries to any of our staff, and everyone was safe.

Our White Bay Villas team came together as a strong family and proved to be an extraordinary group of dedicated people. We provided accommodations to our staff and their family members, to keep everyone employed and paid while we sorted out the next steps in this challenging adventure. I am happy to report that we are all in high spirits and working diligently to rebuild even better with a focus on greater structural and environmental resiliency.  At this time,

I am pleased to let you know that we have seven (7) villas in great shape and awaiting your arrival, with more becoming available with each passing month as we continue to rebuild. We also have internet connectivity, TV’s for your entertainment, and cell phone service with line of sight to AT&T’s US Tower.

The island of Jost Van Dyke, has made lots of progress, with electricity and cell phone service restored – and thirteen (13) beachfront bar/restaurants back in business! Yet, it is still a healing process.  The greenery and flowers of the island are back in full bloom, and White Bay beach and the bay are as beautiful as ever. Flights are more frequent, the marine industry is recovering, and White Bay Villas now offers our own Water Taxi service with a Captain, for your convenience. The water taxi makes it easier to fly in and out of St Thomas USVI and then taxi direct to Jost Van Dyke, BVI. Learn more about the White Bay Villas Water Taxi
