Getting to Jost Van Dyke

Jost Van Dyke is a small island (4 mi. x 2 mi.), on the Northern portion of the British Virgin Islands just north of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas and St. John. Population of the island is approximately 180 total.

Traveling to Jost Van Dyke is very easy to do. Most major U.S. Airlines fly into St. Thomas from major U.S. cities. Our recommendation for people coming from the U.S. is to fly directly into St. Thomas.

It is best to take the earliest flight out of your departure city and return on a late afternoon flight out of your arrival city.

Provisioning Information: We now have provisioning service for our guests flying into St. Thomas. Please contact Bonnie Martin at 800-778-8066 or 410-349-1851, to find out more information about this convenient service!

Airline Links:

Other options are to fly into San Juan, Puerto Rico or St. Martin, then connect to St. Thomas. This option is great for people traveling from Canada, Central / South America and Europe as most of their major airlines fly into both St. Martin and San Juan. You can also fly into Tortola.

Once in St. Thomas - you have several options for travel to Jost Van Dyke:

Monday - Thursday: Take a taxi to the ferry dock at Charlotte Amalie (5 minute cab ride) or Red Hook (30-40 minute cab ride) and then a ferry through West End, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, to Jost Van Dyke.

Friday - Sunday: Take a taxi to Charlotte Amalie ferry dock and ferry to West End, Tortola. Then the Paradise Express Ferry from West End to Jost Van Dyke (www.newhorizonferry.com). If traveling to Red Hook, then take a ferry directly to Jost Van Dyke. Their web site is: http://interislandboatservices.com. Please check here for their schedule.

A private water taxi from Red Hook, (on the eastern part of St. Thomas) directly to Jost Van Dyke is available. You can hail a taxi to Red Hook from the airport. Information about the water taxi is available upon booking. This option saves you time, and the cost for the charter is comparable to your ferry costs, depending on how many people are traveling in your party. We recommend pricing both upon booking.

Once you arrive on Jost Van Dyke, we will assist you in arranging a 5-minute ride to your private villa or cottage.

Groceries/Provisioning

You can get almost all of your shopping supplies in Jost Van Dyke or Tortola.  If you would like to shop in Tortola, Bobby's Super Market has on line grocery shopping, which you can do a few days before arrival. Bringing items from the US or USVI's may incur a 10% duty tax. Please contact Bonnie for further information.

We now offer provisioning service for a nominal fee! Please check with Bonnie for details about this wonderful and convenient service.

Transportation on Jost Van Dyke:

On Jost Van Dyke, there are three bays, all facing south, and White Bay, where we are located, is the western most and least inhabited. Serenity and sunsets! "White Bay was named by Conde Naste Traveler Magazine as "one of the 10 best beaches in the world"! Great Harbor, just a 15 minute walk, is the "metropolis" of the island and has a Customs House, ferry dock and 5 restaurants, "Foxy's" being the most famous. Information about transportation is available in your villa.

Thought I'd let you know what a fabulous and PERFECT stay we had at White Bay Villas! Couldn't have been more wonderful, and just the memories we wanted for our 10th anniversary. Featured in photos around the World, the "Bubbly Pool" " is still a closely guarded secret of Jost Van Dyke!!! Nature's Jacuzzi, this naturally formed tidal pool is located behind jagged cliffs facing the open ocean coming from the North. When the North swell is up, this is absolutely a National Geographic experience as you wade in the pool and fearfully watch as the rolling sea comes at you with full force!!! Just at the last second as it looks as if the wave will go straight over you, the unique formation outside the pool prematurely breaks the wave and the resulting "bubbles" fill up the pool and give everyone a reason to be glad to be alive!!! The Bubbly Pool is a place that makes everyone smile. It is a short hike from the beach on the east end of the island. You will hike through Mangroves, hills of wild Sage, and a little amateur rock climbing. For the more adventurous, serious free-style rock climbing affords unbelievable photo opportunities of the whole area as well as a visit to the "Eagle's Nest" and to the "Mighty Blow Hole".

Just wanted to drop a line and say how wonderful the Cottage was. Everything was as advertised, something unusual these days, and the info packet that Bonnie supplied was dead on. Ira Moses was most helpful for our trip to and from the Airport. Also the recommendation for a jeep rental was perfect and well within reason on rates. We could not believe the dining, five star dining beach side without all the formality. Truly culinary ecstasy. We can honestly say that this was the best vacation we've ever had and would and will recommend White Bay Villas and the Island to all.
- With Kindest Regards, Mark & Therese Powers
